January 2022

Published by The Kahlers on

Greetings from the Grand Vision Baptist Church in Bocoyna, Chihuahua, and our missions. We are thankful for God’s blessings received in January. There were three ladies saved and one family visited for the first time. Continue to pray for the new converts, that they will be faithful and continue to grow in their walk with the Lord.

Panalachi Baptist Church Update

God continues to bless the church in Panalachi. The members are faithful in attendance, and they are bringing new people to the services. Ana Ester is faithful in teaching the teacher-training class for those that want to teach Sunday School. They had a special service in the mission in Ocorochi in December with 50 people attending. Brother Corpus, a church member that Missionary Mario Zavala is training, preached a sermon in the Tarahumara language. Many of the people in this community do not speak Spanish. The plan for the Church is to continue taking the Gospel to other “Ranchitos” where they only speak Tarahumara.

La Junta Mission Update

Nine children accepted Christ as their Savior last month. They have had good attendance despite the cold weather and sickness. Pastor Luis Carlos and his family tend to the mission Friday – Sunday.

Health Update – Missionary Bonifacio Gonzalez

In our December letter I mentioned that Missionary Bonifacio was diagnosed with cancer and that it had spread to his lungs and spine. He was operated on last month and the doctor’s report was that the operation was a success! Praise the Lord! God answers prayers! We are thankful that He supplied the $130,000 pesos ($6,500 dollars) for the operation and other medical expenses. A special thanks to our Mexican churches that responded to this great need, and “Thank You” Pastors and friends for your prayers and financial help. He will be having chemotherapy soon. Please keep him and his family in your prayers. Also pray for their mission in Villa Juarez and in Kipor, Sonora in their absence.

New Mission

In May, Arturo Gonzalez Olivas, a third year Bible Institute student, will be graduating. He is of the Tarahumara Tribe, and he feels led to begin a new work in the community of Nahuerachi, Chihuahua. The following is Arturo’s testimony:

My name is Arturo Gonzalez Olivas, and I am 20-years old. I am from the Tarahumara Tribe, from the community of Sitanachi, Municipality of Guachochi, Chihuahua. I accepted Christ as my Savior at the age of 10 and I surrendered my life to the Lord as a teen-ager. I felt led to preach God’s Word to the Tarahumara people. I entered the Bible Institute in Bocoyna three years ago to prepare for the ministry. I will graduate in May of this year. I want to start a mission in the community of Nahuerachi, not too far from my home in Sitanachi. Pastor Jose Martinez, Pastor of Grand Vision Baptist Church in Bocoyna, will be taking me to do a survey as to where to start the mission. We know that the harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few. Our debt is to preach the love of Christ and that people will be saved. Please pray that God will lead us to find the right place to begin the mission.

Prayer Requests

We are thankful for God’s protection and His blessings upon us during these challenging and uncertain times. There are still many people to be reached with the Gospel, so we persevere in His name. The following is a list of our current prayer requests:

  • Please pray for Pastor Jose Martinez and his family. His mother passed away recently. She was saved and we know that she is in the presence of the Lord. Pray that God will comfort the family.
  • Pray for Carlos and Belem Madrigal, Missionaries going to Japan. Their entrance into the country has been postponed until further notice. Pray that the border will be reopened soon.
  • Pray for Cindy and Tomas, the other two Bible Institute students who will be graduating from the Bible Institute in May, that God would lead them to their place of service . Pray that God would send forth more labourers into His harvest.

We are deeply grateful to all of you that have stood behind us with your prayers and faithful support. Please continue to keep God’s work here in Mexico in your prayers.

Sincerely in Him,

Mrs. Joan Kahler

that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Luke 10:2
